Percentage of keyword appears on a web page. It refers to the appearing of a particular keyword in a web page with respect to the total keywords. Normally the density should stay between 2-3% or it'll turn into stuffing.

Keyword density is the ration of number of keywords in a page of content to the total number of words in the same content page, expressed in percent terms. While keyword density helps to demonstrate the relevance of keywords to the content, too high a density is taken by search engines as keyword spamming and could be negative.

To me, that sounds like a very low percentage, considering you're only using your keywords 2 out of every 100 words. An average sentence is only about 10 to fifteen words long, so you would use your keywords approximately twice for every ten sentences? Is that right? I have used more and still been fine, if only cause that particular article needed it for clarification. But it had more to do with the article than keyword density.

so how many keywords do you feel is ok on a 500 word article?
    50 keywords would be 10%
    25 keywords would be 5 %
12-13 keywords would be in the 2%-3% areas?

what about keyword phrases? they still count as a keyword?

However 2-3% is search engines standard but sometimes I get naughty and break the rule and extend it to 5 to 7
But 2-3% is also good enough as if I submit an article of 1000 words and if I use 2% density then the keyword would be 20 and if I use 3% then the keywords would be 30. So doesn't it sounds good?

Is there a site wherein I could check my article's keyword density?

I always prefer to use Keywords in Title and in the first part and last part of the full article. Sometimes in the middle of the articles. So the number is not more than 4 times in a 300-500 worded article.

Of course it is important to have your keywords on the article's title since this will reflect your page's URL.
Keywords on the URLs play a big part in SEO.

Do a quick search on Google and you'll find tons; I don't know if you want the density for the entire site or just a particular article.
