Thread: What inspired your forum?

What inspired your forum?
My forum was inspired by the desire to have a common meeting ground where all my friends (from around the world) could come and hang out and talk. That's why it's called 'lounge' cause it's a place where you can relax and just be yourself. Other forums are started for various reasons. For instance, you might want to provide more information on a topic that interests you.
What idea inspired you to start your forum?

My original forum was inspired much like yours was. The subsequent forums were inspired by the want to expand my network and income online.

That's cool! I didn't even realize you could monetize a forum when i first started, that was more an after thought when it started taking eight hours a day to run the forum and then i realized it needed to produce money to justify it's existence. lol
I don't put that much time into my forum anymore cause there are sufficient posts.
For me, a general forum is truly a hard thing to manage, cause it's just all over the place with the topics and hard to get members to post in every subforum daily. So most of the subforums look deserted after just a few days.
I'm still in the process of trying to decide whether or not to continue this forum in it's current incarnation (just get lots more new members, assuming that's possible) or revamp and go in a new direction. Or, just start a niche forum from scratch.

LOL, this is identical to me. My first forum I had no idea how I could make money or even that I could. I just did it for fun. After 5 years of spending my time on it, I sold it.
Yeah, I hear you. I say keep it going.
You've done the preliminary work already.

I got divorced and fought for custody of my kids. I truly knew that my kids would be better with me. I got full custody and I wanted to help inspire other dads too. If they truly thought that their kids would be better off with them, they should do all they could to get custody.
The site now has evolved into dads helping other dads be better parents now.DaddyPlace.com - Dads Helping Dads with Fatherly Advice

That's a very unique concept for a forum and certainly the unique theme must have contributed to your forum success.
That's cool! Thank you for the advice.
And yes, a lot of work has gone into the forum so far. And, i know it could be a really awesome thriving forum. I've seen other general chat forums that have many many members posting daily and i want mine to be like that. And, for awhile it was, very very busy all the time. But more recently the forum has subsided with activity and i'm trying to figure out why. I just gotta get many many new members one way or another. I think that's the only thing i can do, if i want my forum to survive.
