How many backlinks per day should you develop maximum to avoid any detection by Google (and ban)?

I'm not sure it really matters how many per day as to the quality. If you are in bad neighborhoods, that is when G will start to flag your site.

Well, if your site is just new, create a maximum of 50 backlinks per day. Do this until the next few months.
After that, move to a hundred. Remember, do it at humanly as possible.

You want to have a flow of backlinks, you can happily build 100's of links to a brand new site stright away to be honest. As long as your able to keep to building 100/backlinks every day, only 50% or so will be indexed every day, but in the long run, you've got constant backlinking to the site, most people will build backlinks and leave it for months to see if it does anything to the rankings. :/

Luckily, I got some loyal visitors who do the backlinking for me. Plus, these backlinks also give me lots of traffic.

How do your visitors build links for you? Social networks?

Well, it's when they put my site as their source of news.
Or when they use my site as a reference on various things, like downloads, etc.

So you use some social bookmarking icons on your site and encourage users to use them?

Yes. I have them on my blog. But most of the time they spread actual blog entry URLs on various forums and I even cited as their source.
