They bring wonderful result but of course its not just you that will target these keywords, the more competitors you'll have along the way. ITs worth go to these high global searched keywords if you can out ranked them in a short period of time and by then you'll earn more thru its traffic.

The best keywords would be micro niches that have a fair amount of searches but low competition. Unfortunately I have not found any, so I cannot post them there (not to mention the niche would get flooded very quickly). Alternatively, you can do it the hard way and use highly competitive but also highly searched keywords, and some examples would be: SEO, webmaster, making money online, etc.

However these markets are already highly saturated so you would need to know how to market your site very well to get some traffic.

Such as 'dress' or 'doll' or 'game'? Probably hard to rank for those unless you have lots of money for professional SEO services.

I would use the first method of defining more specialized niche keywords as the second method of competing with a billion other sites is not really worthwhile. Doing so, you will only be buried in search results and never see light of day.

If you are just a new site, is it really possible to rank on the first page?

I don't think it's really possible to rank for one word in such a way. But a big company like Mattel (a toy/doll company) could easily put up a new site and rank well for either term cause they have authority as a toy site and massive deep pockets for professional SEO services.

Mattel is there for years, so no doubt that they rank on a single keyword.

Of course! And, that's an excellent point. They have money and seniority in search engines, they're credible cause they're the toy experts.
