Short term effect might be instant traffic. Long term effect might be bankruptcy for the site owner if they use all their money on PPC instead of proper SEO for traffic.

I don't really think those are considered EFFECTS, rather, the steps that is done on PPC.
Please correct me if I'm wrong here.

Hi! I'm new to this forum and I really want to know what PPC is. It's the only strategy that I don't have any idea about. Can anyone explain it to me in really simple terms? Thanks!

From Pay per click - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pay per click (PPC) (also called Cost per click) is an Internet advertising model used to direct traffic to websites, where advertisers pay the publisher (typically a website owner) when the ad is clicked. With search engines, advertisers typically bid on keyword phrases relevant to their target market. Content sites commonly charge a fixed price per click rather than use a bidding system. PPC "display" advertisements are shown on web sites or search engine results with related content that have agreed to show ads. This approach differs from the "pay per impression" methods used in television and newspaper advertising.

You can take some short term benefits of PPC advertising. When your website is new and not ranking for any keyword, you can use PPC for gaining some instant traffic for your business. As well as start optimizing your website in Search Engines for long term results. When your website will start ranking for some good keywords, stop PPC as you are getting organic traffic.

PPC ads are posted at the very top and down the right side of search engine results - for example prime real estate on the page that draws the eye right away. It can attract people right away and bring more traffic.
