Blog or website needs unique quality articles which will help to reach to the Google First page and we need to build several backlinks as well. If we have affiliates in our blog, then we need to earn income.

One of the standards i use for quality is whether or not there are sufficient words on a page also if a majority of those words relate to the theme of the site they're on or the sites they are linking to.

This is what's been bugging me. It could be possible that the backlinks play a big part on this.

Maybe for Google but other sites like Bing specifically state in their Webmaster TOS that they use on page content to determine quality. They measure the number of times a site link gets clicked on and then a bounce occurs, as in the person clicks back. Supposedly that means, the site page did not contain the relevant information searched for and eventually if that happens enough times, Bing takes the page out of the index for that word and may even de-index the site entirely as being irrelevant.

Backlinks can sometimes be the stumbling blocks in the path to our success.

Don't be too overly hooked up on massive backlinks .. and don't think that backlinks are going to be the end-all cure to your SERP listing problems. They can't, and they wont, save the day.

I currently have a domain, brand new, only registered 7 weeks ago .. it boasts a position 3 for it's terms in Google .. and get this .. are you ready? .. It already has a page rank of 1.

SetXWebdev.com - SETX WebDev - Freelance Web Page Design - Web Page Coding - Images and Graphics

The kicker is that this brand new domain only has 5 solid backlinks (mostly from social networking sites)

Genuine authority is a combination of things .. the least of which is "backlinks" ... Face it .. it's not 2005 anymore .. the backlink bandwagon has already sailed.

Your authority can be determined by what you put on the page. If you're full of BS, then your content will show it. What you say, and how you say it can either win the day, or lose it .. it doesn't make any difference how many backlinks you've got.

If you're on the books, Google will know it. Whether it be Sumatra, Borneo, or Brisbane .. being registered or licensed with your local government "as a legit business" will give you a definite edge.

For instance (Southeast Texas Web Development is registered pursuant to and/or in accordance with chapter 71.151 -- Business and Commerce Code (State of Texas) -- Orange County, Texas 2012) ... write your registration or licensing into your selected service pages .. Google reads this stuff.

Knowing your own industry (what you really know how to do) and writing about it (in your own words) will extend that edge to an even greater degree.

Parroting or just repeating everything that everyone else says isn't authority .. It's Parroting .. Google knows this and ranks you accordingly.

Hosting dedicated/dedicated mail server also helps you a great deal.

    mail.setxwebdev.com - Mail Server for 1 Domain - ReverseMX.com

Service pages .. Yes .. those insanely boring word filled pages that nobody but "Google" reads .. Privacy, Terms of Use, Legal, About Us, Contact Us ... you know ... those pages. All are worth it if you want to list higher in the SERPs ...

These are the pages that gives your address, physical location, phone number(s) and so on and so forth.

Keywords? .. Sure .. If you really know your industry, you won't have to lose any sleep over those, because you'll already know what they are, and you'll already have them incorporated into the content of the pages you wrote yourself and in your own words.

And back to your comment .. Are backlinks important? .. Sure they are .. Backlinks are golden to those who might not yet fully understand how all of this web-listing-stuff works.

The more experience you get in this business, the less important to you the backlinks will become.

as an aside, and for the record ... I'm an internet web developer .. not an SEO Specialist .. I get the product out the door and outsource a full 90% of the SEO that's done to our projects.

The site mentioned in this post was not touched once by a professional SEO service.

If the selected niches and keywords are not very competitive, even addition of fresh contents could be very useful, driving traffic to the pages of websites and blogs. When you add a new page to your site covering a subject not covered on any site that is very specific, that page alone could help getting top ranks online.

Kinda the way everyone every webmaster/blogger reports what Matt Cutts says. Why not voice an opinion on what he said and say why you think it's good or bad and could help/hurt webmasters rather than just restating. Why not forcast where it could go next, create a little of your own news with predictions of SEO things to come.
