yea, one of the main reason I will/won't sign up for a forum involves how many people are on it and threads posted, and what discussion topics are available. Good read for forum owners.

I've found it can be helpful to join other forums that are also new and try to interact with the admin of that forum. Often you can help each other.

Re: Top 10 Tips for Growing a Forum
I'm a member of almost a hundred forums. I'm an active poster in at least 5 forums.
I think admin and moderators play a very curcial role. If they are nice, people tend to be more active.

Hello Friends.......
1.First and foremost you need to decide what your forum is about, and stick to it.
2.Don't have empty forums, seed them with content
3.Encourage new (and old) members to post.
4.Use a nice forum style with a custom logo
5.Don't get discouraged and continually post new content
6.A VERY important part of having a popular forum is making sure people know you exist
Thanks

My number one suggestion is to give the users incentive to keep posting or visiting. Most forums do contests, others have content you can't get anywhere else. I have seen forums have points or $ systems where users can accumulate these points by posting to get prizes.

If you are the owner of the forum, take an interest in members. Show up, chat with the guests on forum. Give feedback and make sure they know you're around.
